Another wrench in the machine

The project has almost become some kind of tragicomedy where new problems lurk around every corner. The MVP of the project is together and is starting to feel as though that was the easy part. Three months ago that certainly wouldn’t have been a widely held view. This frustration comes from working through the requirements of the Apple app store, as there are several requirements that hadn’t even been considered. Such as what is supposed to be in a privacy policy and are there any cryptographic pieces within the project. Questions that at times seem mundane and others that seems totally silly. One perfect example is the question of whether the application will be launched in France, as there are legal requirements for apps with novel cryptographic capabilities. While it likely wouldn’t be difficult to ensure compliance with this law, it is far easier to simply check the box saying don’t launch this in France. An aside to this is that it seems as though Quebec hasn’t fallen far from the tree, as that province loves to create needless laws. Perhaps it is a French cultural requirement.

At times one must laugh in order to avoid crying, but with the finish line so close it is impossible to think of giving up. There were many hats that were necessary to be worn in order to get the project this far. Several more will be required to finish the project, but certainly becoming a legal expert was not seen to be one of them. One would’ve hoped that the fee to become a developer on the Apple app store would have provided some help in this regard, but that seems a bit naive at this point. It is becoming increasingly clear why so few attempt to launch any apps, and why even fewer manage to succeed. Can’t wait to see what the next wrench will be, and fingers will be crossed that it is a simple fix.
